Nikka Costa - "Everybody Got Their Something"

Nobody could tell me a damn thing about "Mr. Nothing", the debut video and single from her album. They might remember the pale, wavy-red-haired girl covered (barely) in blue chiffon, dancing erotically with her microphone stand in "Like a Feather", but the most
they'd probably say is "How the hell did she get her top to stay on?" Listen to the whole album, you'll understand.

The Strokes:

It's like going on a nice, long walk outside in the sun after being cooped up in the house for a week of rainy, ugly days of sitting on your ass, watching daytime soaps and talk shows. A breath of fresh air, dorkrock at its finest. And why is it nobody knows it but me?

India Arie:

Remember that girl who had the video where she was in that cool white one-bellsleeved dress and she had dredlocks and played the accoustic guitar too? Yeah, that was India Arie. The unique, creative songs that actually got play on MTV2 once in a while are called "Video" and "Brown Skin" and she's got a whole CD full of 'em. ("Accoustic Soul")

Blink 182 - Every song they've been bombarding us with since "Dammit" sounds EXACTLY the same to me, with little to no variation! Same children's-singalong-ish vocals with that IRRITATING accent ("Oym not werthy of a minnit of yertoym..."), and if I hear one more moron say, "Blink 182 RULES! Punkrock forEVER!" I'm going to rip all my hair out. Dude, Blink 182 is the MANDY MOORE of punkrock! You are NOT punkrock!

Creed:

You used to be so cool... I really loved "One" and "Sunday Morning", but lately, it's all the same popish crap designed more for show and tell than actually to create anything good. Please stop! I can't TAKE anymore! Just crawl off and DIE already. Too cliche, too catchy, and too self-help-book-ish. Just fall off the planet. You're RUINING ROCK MUSIC!

Otown:

I don't think I have to say much about them. If you listen to the music, it speaks for itself (in small, monosyllabic words with visual aids in large print with pronounciation guides at the bottom in brightly-colored block-letter capitals).

Britney Spears:

"Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" makes me worry about her, because if this is Britney Spears being sincere and really opening up and baring her soul to the world, then she's got all the depth and insight of a small mud puddle. I don't buy it.

POD:

Okay, I respect them for trying to be "positive role models" for the youth of America, and singing rap-rock tunes about God is rather controversial, so big ballsey points to them for that. However... (knew it was coming, didn'tcha?) I have a few complaints and criticisms (as usual). The lyrics: ("I feel so alive, for the very first time, and I think I could fly.") Cliche-ridden and simplistic... Fly, pie, eye, die, why, cry, sigh... Mmmhmmm... Icky... Pioneers of Christian rock for damn sure, but how can you use such bland words to describe something as deep and powerful as spirituality? I love them anyway... but I don't think I can listen to the music.
